Is it the best thing to do?

Post by Essex Nige »

I've knackered the JX so i was thinking a AAZ, is this the best move?

If so i have 2 questions,

1. is there any differences in puting a AAZ in a syncro than a normal T25.

2. what is the best donor?

This is the route Im taking and I have just bought a 1993 Passat as a doner. The AAZ and JX are very similar and all the stuff swaps over and in the Syncro you wont have to worry about the pump hitting the engine cover. Expect a little more power and a little more torque.

Standards??? What standards!!!! :rofl :rofl

AAZ looks like a JX, is as tough as old boots, will cruise at 3500rpm til the cows come home and will give you 30 MPG+..... Sorted.

Get your gearbox done if its slipping out of First. You need to chat with 'the man called Aidan' about any upgrades you might want. I imagine he will mention a longer top gear as an AAZ will pull it OK.

Andrew
the passat donor means you will have to make a mount as the holes in the block aren't the same as the transverse engines and JX I believe

Golf, passat AAZ have same bolt patern as JX 1.6 td. Audi has a different pattern the same as 110 TDI AFN.
1Z, AHU have same bolt pattern as JX.

Think I'm right in saying one thing you DON'T have to do when fitting an AAZ in a syncro van is trim the engine hatch to clear the AAZ injector pump, as the engine is mounted lower in a syncro shell so has enough hatch clearance already.
