rear trailing arm chassis mount

whilst checking the crew cab over yesterday I have found that the mount which the rear trailing arm fits onto (offside/offside) has massive corrosion on & need replacing asap, Ive looked but cant seem to find anyone that supplies the section, was thinking about welding plates & box section onto the chassis to replace it, anyone else done this repair? the other 3 are all fine, only the 1 is bad,
gutted as missing BVF as Im not keen on driving van till its repaired

1300 replies on how to slap paint on with a roller but you ask a technical question about welding & no one has a clue

Bit harsh - does that apply to all of us or just your perception? To be fair its hardly a job many (if any) would have done as they haven't quite reached that point yet. Theres no point in answering if members don't have experience of the problem you have. Its also a suspension area and there are strict guidelines as to what you can and can't do in those areas. If you've sorted it then congratulations, we're genuinely pleased but narrow mindeness won't get helpful responses - as in life. As said, plenty in WIKI, you only have to look.

I think it was showing on my post, it sort of means Im speaking tongue in cheek, I dont know what else youve posted here or elsewhere but YOU refered to slapping on paint which rightly or wrongly I interpreted as that you had happily slapped it on,
so I then suggested slapping weld on!

now I dont for one minute know if you have rollered you van or w.h.y but either way I dont suppose you "slapped" it on? I would give you the benefit of the doubt and suggest you applied it to the best of your abillity.

I then reposted stating that there isnt a part available etc etc, I mean what more do you want, me to come and do the job.
So help you will get it will be unbiased and the best of my or anyone ilses ability, we have no axe to grind and nothing to gain from you so please think about it before making a total pi****k out of yourself

as for weld job , 2 replica plates made from 5mm steel, outside/outside kept flat & welded to orginal fitment using mig, inside/outside bent to 90 degree & welded inplace of the corroded unit, i added 100 mm to length to allow plenty of room when welding along the frame work, once welded in place fittments where drilled too correct size & a 10mm longer bolt added to refit the the arm, the arms rubber seal has been replaced with a new unit from Jk & the bolt was obtained from BAE, once fitted it has been thread locked & painted with wax oil
the otherside will be modded so I wont have the same problem again
next issue is how to squeeze a porky 3.2 in

The question was "anyone else done this repair?" - by the very fact that there was no response to the question ( people are not going to bother to post "no" ) surely you could surmise the answer?

its a common repair, doing it right is not so common,
