Hello
This is my first posting so sorry if anythings done wrong.
I have a 1985 T25 1.9 DG Devon conversion.
I bought the van a few of weeks ago, have driven 1200 plus miles with no probs until now.
The engine normally starts on a few seconds turnover but on a couple of occasions the following has happened, turned the key, engine fired up straight away (as said before normally takes a few seconds to start) for about 2 seconds then died and would not fire up just kept turning over. I then got a mate to tow me to bump start and it fired up straight away. It then started up as normal for the following week. Yesterday same thing again fires up on first turn, runs for 2-3 seconds dies then won't fire up.
Any suggestions as to what it could be? Many thanks
Starting problem 1.9 DG

Re: Starting problem 1.9 DG
A few seconds??
it should be immeadiate.
I presume it's ok when warm?
I'd do this first...if you have't already
new plugs and a lead set, dizzy cap and rotor arm.
fuel filter (by the tank) and in the carb
then
idle speed cut off solenoid does it click..(haynes)
check the battery should be no lower than 12.6 after an over night stand.
Does your choke work OK .. follow proceedure in the haynes
my guess is it's fuel
it should be immeadiate.

Re: Starting problem 1.9 DG
Check your earth connection to the chassis on your main battery, if its hot after turning the engine over you have a bad connection. Clean up with a Dremel and reconnect. I had the same problem with my van and now it runs perfectly. Hope this is of use to you

Re: Starting problem 1.9 DG
Thanks for your replies, I will try every thing out.
I bump started it today, it started straight away and now starts up as normal.
It was also pointed out to me that it might be running on 3 cylinders on tick over as it is hunting and a slight smell of petrol. Though when going it pulls strong and cruises at 70mph
Re. Kevtherev It always takes a few seconds and a few pumps of the accelerator to get it started whether its hot or cold. Also battery very strong.
Once again thanks. Will let you know how I get on.
cheers

Re: Starting problem 1.9 DG
may not be the problem but remember to press the accelerator to the floor and let it off again, this puts the choke on
