glow plugs/starter question

Post by tomsneade »

Hi, I know this is a daft question to all you experts, but i am totally in the dark....Would the engine fire up if the glow plugs were duff... im trying to diagnose my intermittent starting problems....i know that i have asked similar questions before, but specifically, if none of the glow plugs were working, is it possible for the engine to start? Many thanks in advance for any help.

It will start eventually without the glow plugs, there is a simple test to see if they are working*, I think you put the interior light on then turn the key the interior light gets brighter when the plugs turn off.

* I may or may not have made this up ?

If not join the Club get your 80 90 GSF discount, buy a set of plugs, drive to Southampton pay my mechanic £25 and get them fitted, you will need a new set for the winter anyway.
