Reversing Issue - Clutch on it's way?

Got a 1984 1.9DG 4 speed T25 Karmann Gipsy

just started playing up in reverse ..

basically difficult to engage & then have to really rev it to get it going & then it lurches like the brakes are locked on, then will travel another 10ft & the same thing happens again.
Then very difficult to get out of reverse back into neutral.

any ideas?

pinion bearings shagged probably, when did the oil get changed last ? Do an oil change see the plug, call for a rebuild

assuming you mean gearbox oil change?
Im not very mechanical!
