Hi everyone,
We've got a fuel leak when the tank is really full. Our mechanic had a look and says it's the plastic filler pipe, which is good news on the one hand because it means we don't need to replace the whole tank. The bad news is that VW don't make this part anymore, so we're having trouble finding a replacement.
Any ideas anyone? We're having some work done on it next weekend so would love to have the part by then, but I don't know if that's wishful thinking. Any tips appreciated.
Many thanks,
Jo

Re: Looking for a 1987 plastic filler pipe
Someone just sold a second hand tank in the for sale section....I believe it was also sold with the filler neck although I could be wrong! the guy buying presumabley is buying the tank and may sell the neck seperately.
My take on this is that plastic filler necks are ususally pretty reliable and leaks are normally from the large grommet in the tank or higher up from the braided hoses going to the expansion tanks.
All I'm saying is: are they sure?

never seen the plastic pipe with a leak , unless someone has drilled it accidently while fitting an interior part.
usually the upper rubber right angle hose perishes. this is the most common or the small breather hoses on the tank , again the material looking ones not the hard plastic.
also the rubber bungs on the tank can leak.
just double check before hand.
i have a neck hear in gloucester tho if you need one.

hi all,
red westie is right,
it was me who bought the the s/h tank on here and it did come with the filler pipe,
your welcome to it if you want it,
ive got to agree with the others though, ive never known the filler pipe leak, more like the seal or one of the seals on top,

Thanks for posting everyone.
We're taking it to get LPG converted this weekend and I was intending to get the part so they could sort out the leak then, but having read your advice, I think I'll wait and see what Elite VW think is the trouble. I'll report back after the weekend.
Thanks so much,
Jo
