1.9DG engine - but what is this called, what is it for, and what is the part number please? Mine is perished....
Its the braided pipe coming from the alloy inlet manifold, and goes through hole/grommet on rear bulkhead on left half of engine. Sorry i pic comes out small, am having same prob with all my pics fro Photobucket... thanks all..

I have replaced this pipe. The old one had a large, perished hole on underneath at junction with manifold. Im now told this wouldve affected the running of the van due to the air/fuel mix (too much air) as well as the brake servo. We live and learn.
Do check yours when you get a mo, theres lots of mention on here re the vacuum hoses to the carb needing to be checked but I dont recall this one being mentioned as much. Also, it MUST be replaced with proper servo hose, or it will deteriorate rapidly.

Aidan will remember this one, but my emergency Sunday brake servo hose repair (replacing it with a short length of good quality washing machine inlet hose) is still in place after over a year. Had to warm the ends to get a tight fit but its never moved and as I said before, available in 'ice blue' or 'chilli red'. The cheaper wholly plastic variety is no good at all as it kinks but the rubber braided type is fine. The remains of the hose I use as a gearbox oil filler pipe attached to a funnel which i can top up from the engine bay until gearbox is full.

Silicon replacements from Brickwerks if you choose that route.
One word of warning to anyone removing the old hose - the scars all over my fingers/thumb bear testiment to the fact that old steel braid is sharp and horrible! Wear gloves!
Vacuum hose.....often mistakenly replaced with normal coolant or fuel hose...one earlier comment mentioned that other hoses deteriorate, well I don't necessarily agree, it's not that fuel quality hose deteriorates rather it collapses under 'vacuum' because the hose is constructed differently. I have used fuel grade hose for a vacuum supply as a last resort but sleaved it first with copper fuel pipe to prevent it from collapsing.

Indeed Red, that was my point on cheap plastic hose. I may have been just plain lucky in finding the only bullet-proof washing hose around but it doesn't suck flat Best to use right stuff though. Chickenkoop and I replaced a shaped coolant hose with silicon sleeved with a flexible plumbing fitment to stop it going flat on bends - seemed to work.

Very good call - and I do have the wounds to prove it! Thankfully, my tetanus jab is up to date!
