Hi, I've got a fluid leak started last night and is dripping quite abit but I can't figure what its from. The usual suspects I've ruled out are engine oil (as thats black), gear box (kinda grey), brake/clutch (looks blue and smells totally different) and the leak is coming from way up about level with the top of the rear tyre. Its on the left /passenger side and its about opposite where the rear wheel starts from what I can tell that being the side nearest the sliding door.
Could the differntial leak that high up or is there something else up there that needs its own oil supply. The oil is a light colour.
t25 1.6 turbo diesel syncro
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated as it is dripping quite abit and what ever it is is going to run out soon.
Thanks in advance.

If it's up in the wheel arch and quite clean, could it be oil form the damper? They do blow and going over a bump can eject it at quite a rate. How's the ride quality? (A picture would help to be honest.)

nearside of gearbox holds the clutch slave cylinder and the feed pipe for that. If your van is stock height, get right under and fish around with a rag...

Thanks for the replys.
I got a mechanic to have a quick look and he said its diesel, 20yrs driving petrol cars I still can't get my head around how oily it is. Anyway after digging through 2 inches of compacted mud and a jet wash it was leaking from the fuel supply on the fuel tank, the metal lug had corroded and yup one touch and it snapped of and I had to watch my tank of diesel pour on to the street. I did think it was coming from way higher though but that was because the diesel soaks into the mud and rises about 6" or more that the pipe which was totally concealed with mud. After wire brushing that area (for a temporay repair) its also had tiny pin holes from corrosion which spilled even more, like watching a machine gun shoot a barrel of whiskey.
Good news is the whole tank doesn't need to be replaced as its actually the sender unit (approx an 8" diameter steel plate bolted with 8 nuts) with the sender unit and fuel supply in the middle of it, apparently a common corrosion problem as the fuel tank still has its black paint.
Anyways got one ordered from syncrospares (about a £100), vw discontinued them in 2008.
Cheers and thanks again.
