Hi all
Leaving Deva last week we had a bit of a carp journey home, loss of power, backfiring. Generally poo. Bit of a strip down revealed what looked like calcium type deposits and dirt in the fuel filter and carb. Only replaced the tank last year as well but guess it could be icing over the winter that has worked its way through.
Anyway after a lot of forum reading i have decided that i want to get away from the single webber 32/36, which consensus seems to rate them as rubbish, back to twin carbs and get better performance out of the 2.0l Aircooled engine that was rebuilt over winter.
So has anybody had this experience and can give me ideas of what options and cost i am looking at, Stock, Dell's Webber. Looking for a good balance of economy and performance. Don't want to break the bank..it wouldn't take much..but any advice would be great

Well did a bit more on the van today, took the fuel pump off and measured the pushrod, measured 139mm, seems to be working ok, played with mixture and timing and not dropping power now but still holds back at the top end.
A lot more forum reading and i think it has to be dells. Anybody bought from Eurocarb, they have a set for £552 but not sure if they will swap the manifolds and air filters for shorter ones, email sent and will see what they say. Stateside tuning have a set from £430 so may give them a ring as well.
Any other ideas please let me know before the moths start coming out of the wallet.

I'd be speaking to stateside about what they would recomend as a starting point... then plenty of research
You could have the stock carbs rebuilt by Gasure...
But... you might want to have a look on here at "Umgums" troubles.. he has fitted some Dells and has had a few issues.. not all explained and resolved on here though.. (lots of PM's and several phone calls have helped sort out the issues

Thanks Toomanytoys, unfortunately i'm running on a single webber 32/36 so don't have that option. I would definitely be going down that route if i did. I'm trying not to rush into anything but i want to be ready for CamperJam in 3 weeks.

Ah.. the 32/36 can be made to work ok.. best bet would be to get it to a good rolling road for a setup... Might have to travel a bit for that... IIRC Northants motorsport did someones a couple of months ago.. did a good job....
Fitting bigger carbs is always an issue.. whats the general condition of the engine.. not a lot of point trying to get more out of a tired engine ..
Also what dizzy is it? if an 009 then that prob half the battle.. there is a nack to getting them running better but its still not right on a 2L... even a stock dizzy will perform better (even without vac advance conected) some of the 32/36 have a tapping for vac advance though, so worth checking....

Engine good, rebuilt over winter - new pistons, barrels, bearings, starter motor, dizzy cap, rotor arm, plugs & leads,valves reseated etc.
Just done about 2K miles since then.

When I took the carb appart there was a lot of calcium which has eaten away arround one of the diaphrams and the float chamber. Cleaned it all out and put a bit of gasket seal arround the edge which seems to have stopped it dropping power suddenly so not sure that putting money into a rebuild kit at £50 would be worth it.

where is the advance and retard attached to the carb?
those carbs normally only ever have 1 connection if at all... if both connected to the same one then it wont be advancing or retarding... and timing will be wrong...
advance side only to the carb, vac side NOT blocked off.... time to 7.5 deg BTDC vac off and (if fitted) idle stabiliser dissconected and plugs together...

two pipes from the back. one to left is to the retard and one on the right to the cone side. I had it set up 4 deg ATDC with both pipes attached and ISU connectors together. Worked ok at this setting.

Hi all
I have just fitted a simalar 32/36 weber to my 2.0L Aircooled engine,
But not sure what pipes go where.
Has any one got more photos or diagrams wher pipes go?
