What engine oil?

Post by Lafawnduh »

Hi

We have an '82 1.6 Petrol T25....about to head off on a loooooong journey, and ive just noticed the oil is a bit on the low side.

I'll not be able to do a complete oil change (have never done one myself anyway  )...but thought i could top up the oil.

Firstly, is it OK to do this? I dont know what oil was used before, so does that matter?
Secondly, what oil would you recommend? Preferably something i can pick up in the likes of Halfords.

Thanks again in advance!!

Hi
We have a 82 2.0l T25. We were told to use 15W40 or 20w50. The 15w40 is £18.99 for 5l in Halfords at the minute and you get a 8 piece screwdriver set for free! (not sure about the topping up side as I know what was already in ours but someone on here will know)
Hope this helps and have a good journey :D

Use the 20w50 if its clean and the lids been on it...... take the can with you as you will prob need to top up again at some point... it WILL use some oil.. so please check it regularly..

When was it last serviced then? if going away and plan on doing a few miles.. its really worth having the vehicle checked over and serviced...
