Ignition amplifier

Can anybody please inform me of what symptoms i would expect from a failing or failed ignition amplifier?
Engine is a 1.9 dg 1983.

hi ,


mine went on a 1980 with a cu Aircooled engine.symptoms were,loud backfire and complete loss of power. on attempting to restart the engine would splutter into life but not rev up and just cut out if you tried to pull off.the next day it started okay took it for a drive and got about 1 and a half miles and WHAMMY exactly the same symtoms and same problems trying to start and pull off.hope this helps. mel.

Thanks for that Mel..yes , very useful. That pretty much describes what my engine is doing and is something I shall investigate further.
