16" rear driveshaft question

Post by silverbullet »

OK, it's not for C767 (not going anywhere as I've lent the carb to Damien) it's for the 2.6 SA...
I have been led to believe that the rear shafts are the same as 16" syncro (bigger CV's) and being as the n/s one has side play at both ends...
Might just be the cause of the mystery whirring noise that comes with a left turn over 30 mph (not the front wheel bearings. Done them. Properly)
Anyone know for sure? Part numbers? Hen's teeth? Get some made at Reco-prop?

Nice one Si! Thanks Russel! So they're Audi 100. Parts quote to TPS Monday
I'm waiting for a disc to wing it's way back to Aidan so that I can get those elusive SA part numbers without asking around like this...

Part number is 443 498 201 B, exactly the same as the 16" inner and outer.

SA part number for brake disc is 22S 615 301
That part doesn't cross over to anything I have listed in Europe.
Not saying it doesn't, but the SA numbers don't go into TecDoc.

Ditto pads, they are only ATE calipers, i should imagine the carrier is specific to the SA T3, but the caliper and the pads will be fairly standard.

Thanks Mr B. The brake discs must be similar to something that would stand a small modification, even if it means re-pitching the stud holes/shimming/boring through. I can do that no problem.
I'll measure up and post up some dimensions/pics of both disc and pad for someone to identify.
Otherwise it will mean some racing-type discs to the correct sizes and mounting bells. That'll be expensive.
The good thing is that they're a modern style over-hub disc with the studs poking through. The missus Sharan has some that are similar...

Anyone tried VWS in Bristol? They list all their parts by the vag number and 431 498 103C is listed as fitting a lot of stuff inc. Passat B5, Audi A4, A6, 80, 100 etc. and Transporter 3 (slight mistake when you check across to the T3 lists - boot kit only)
Anyway, they list the manufacturer/supplier...cross reference to "Metelli" website and on their own application lists there is a side note which says "16 inch wheels" :D
and they give the dimensions: 108mm, 28 spline (although not the spline dia, oddly.)
Oh yes, £53 quid each plus £5 flat postage rate. Just going to order a pair now.
:ok

From "Joe Knocker" on SA forum at T'yard, who recently bought a '91 2.5 with fresh brakes, done in Bristol:
front pad's say PAD518, the front disc's 104440311 and the back shoes SHU337
Who's got the parts catalogues??? THIS COULD BE IT!!!!
E D I T - or these could just be the part numbers for regular solid discs etc... :(
