I was going to comment on that...

looks just like the automatic centre-punch I had nicked about 25 years ago...

Seriously, they are a handy tool* (if you can keep peeps fingers off 'em)... why let the drill wander around all over t'place when a wee spot will guide and hold it steady - any engineer will tell ya same.

* classicly used by light-fingered types to break the rear window of a hatchback when they see a toolbox in there! Suffered thus myself...

Thanks for this guys, exactly what needs doing on mine, great tip with pooling the weld too...i'd never have thought of that!
