leaking sliding side window

Post by uniB »

I thought by cleaning all the gunk out of the channel in our sliding side window and refitting it with new rubbers I might have stopped it leaking but no. :(

I've just been watching the channel that the window slides in filling up with water as it chucks it down with rain, in a few minutes it was up to the top of the channel. The rubber on the inside also seems to be getting wet. I have tried drilling a small drainage hole in the bottom of the channel but that doesn't seem to work. The whole channel is wet.

Any ideas – do you think it's the rubber between the sliding / non sliding window that's warn out? If so, can this be replaced?

Thinking of giving up with the slider and try to get a non sliding side window, can't be doing with it!

There should be external drainage slots in the bottom of the window at each end. Check they're not obstructed or (how embarrassing) you haven't fitted the window upside down. You can get replacement internal seals because I remember a thread on here ages ago but I can't remember from where.......

Thanks 1664, I'll have closer look at the drainage holes. Fitting the window upside down would be just the sort of thing I'd do but it must be right because the sliding window catch is at the bottom!

That sounds like a good idea Dug :ok

So the long slot I can see from the outside – that's the drainage hole I presume? I can't see the outside from the inside so I think this is blocked by something reaonably solid. I could check it's not the glass and then Dremel it out maybe?
