1982 2lr Aircooled
hiya all
ive just purchased a 82 t25 Aircooled 2ltr
the van strarts 1st time and runs fine , except if you press the throttle it cuts out , it does the same when starting up a hill, it cuts out and then re starts fine again, any suggestions would be great , am i right in thinking it is sucking in air from somewhere
cheers gary

I,m no expert, but sounds like fuel starvation. check fuel filter for contamination first.

Re: 1982 2lr Aircooled
probably air check the balancing pipes that run accross the back of the engine or should i say gearbox end they come loose and throw everything out. spray some easy start at all of the junctions and manifold/ carb junctions and listen for any change in the engine note.
once set up they are a great engine.
also if CU engine as should be if original make sure timing is 5 after top dead centre. check engine no on case as some get CV engines that were for type4's and bays when replaced as CV timing is 4-6 before top dead centre.
regards doug

Re: 1982 2lr Aircooled
^^ what he said regarding the balance pipe and the rubbers that link it up
Check also
*fuel filter in each carb
*fuel filter near tank - replace
* check the fuel lines are not squished anywhere and restricting
* CHECK THE CONDITION OF YOUR FUEL LINES - they are nigh on 30 years old now and probably ready to split
*Check the breathers under the front wheel arches are not blocked by taking off the filler cap then revving up the engine and keeping the revs up for a min or two

It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!

check fuel filter (right hand side attached to the fuel lines about half way along the body) then check all hoses in the engine are attached properly, including the servo. Where abouts are you?

recently had similar prob with mine, posted on here....are you losing the spark?
Easy to check if fuel getting to engine, in which case can count that out. Need to find whether problem electrical or not

a quick up date, when you check the exhausts the right handside is getting warm the left cold, so im guessing the problem is on the left
