Making Multivan rock and roll secure in caravelle

Post by ally »

Hey

I've got a Multivan bed in my Caravelle, it's fine but it's not secured into the side panels. Now with the kid on the way i want to make this a little more secure. Is there any adapters or resolutions for this?

It's the top part of the bed that doesn't latch on. Or maybe someone wants to swap it for a caravelle bed?

I know what you mean. I've got a 'velle with the same set-up and it's a bit "springy"! :? Because the Westy multivan rear bench has it's own locking mechanism, it's designed to rest on the moulded (multivan) side panels, which have a "wing" each side to support the backrest. May have internal reinforcement too. They are out there, but you'll pay for the privelege...Multivans were the top spec, after all.

Caravelle rock and rollers use the "peg and catch each side" arrangement. The seat carries the catches and the peg bolts into a tapping in the side panel. The seat is also slightly wider as 'velles have flat trim cards.
You can't make a 'velle r&r work with multivan trim and the multivan seat flaps about in a 'velle without the side mouldings!

When i said it's ont secured, it is secure in but it just doesn't latch in so the top part can flop forward on a sharp break. Obviously not good with a baby

I think this is all i need, is anyone fabricating them?

I dont really want to go all out with a mutilvan intererior, the bed is fine i just want it secure in the upright position

Cheers guys

proper multivan bed should NOT be able to just flip forward at the back!
it needs the base to be pulled forward to move the back.

what would be more of a concern is that on a multivan the rear is supported when in the upright position so any load on the rear isant taken through the mechanism but straight to the side supports!

It moves Forwards, not back. The top part, it needs those latches i think to make it secure. Does anyone know where i can get some?

Multivan bed frames should be secured into the lower sides of the bus with adapters that look like a box section with a bolt through. The rear section need the pin area relocating and extending to reach the seat correctly.

No i def have a multivan bed in a Caravelle.. That's why the latches on the top part of the bed (The backrest where the headrests go) dont latch it. Thats why i need that bracket thing in the picture.. The beds in otherwise ok

thats caravelle fitings.
miultivans have no latch there

ther raer seat just rests against to castings in the sidepanels to assist rear word load.

i presume your bed locks into these , not just rest against them

If its any help, I had the same problem putting a Caravelle R&R bed into my Caravelle. The easy solution, if you can weld or have access to someone who can, is to drill out the spot welds on the mounting bracket, take out the pin, turn the bracket inside out, do a little re jigging in the vice to get the angle right and then re-weld it at the front of the reccess. Worked a treat on mine.

So does that look like the same as yours bpikeuk? That sounds like a solution, i do know someone who could possibly weld it yes. Has anyone got anymore detailed instructions or pictures of how they did it?
