Gas Flexi Illegal?... help!
Help!
I've just ordred some gas parts from a helpful gas parts supplier so I can fit a Leisure Princess hob/gril/sink into my van...
I originally emailed 2 suppliers and the 2nd emailed back today to say ...
"It is illegal to run flexible hose straight to an appliance if it is fitted inside a vehicle. You will need to run copper pipe from the appliance to the gas bottle position, and then have a short piece of hose between the bottle and a Fulham nozzle."
I can guess the logic, but I haven't heard of this in my last few weeks of research...
what's everyone else got?

think they are right, plus it would be unsafe having a flexie straight to your cooker

At the risk of sounding dumb...
is there a DIY gas connection solution?
push fit for central heating I've done no probs, but is gas purely for the gas (wo)men?

They forget that to comply with their suggestion you would have to have rigid pipework of all of 3 inches as most of us have the gas bottle alongside the cooker!
They think that the supply is coming from some distance away.

Re: Gas Flexi Illegal?... help!
if you have a flexible hose connected to your cooker correctly it should not be subjected to too much heat, it is also actually recommended that a flex be fitted at both appliance and gas bottle to take up any movement that would otherwise be applied to rigid pipework, which, could actually result in a leak being created, (joints working loose etc) hope this helps!

Re: Gas Flexi Illegal?... help!
Mine has a flexible hose from the hob/grill to the gas bottle(approx 2 ft away)..no problems and the hose is well away from any heat source. When they say illegal ...exactly who is going to know????? I don't think the police do spot checks on how you camper cooker is fitted

errrr.. well OK it's old design etc but I guess based up on that statement that then EVERY Devon conversion out there is now a rolling bomb as they all have a flexible steel pipe from the gas tap right next to the hob and from the gas tap back to the flexible pipe onto the gas cylinder

Me thinks someone is speaking some 2010 based Euro rammel based regs on a new build and lots of Yankie based lawsuits on a 1 in gazillion chance there is a problem with a flexi-pipe over a fixed rigid pipe!
hehehe..... that said if you blow yourself up don't quote me! hehehehe
I would worry more about flashback arresting than possible chafing of a flexi-pipe!
It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!

Re: Gas Flexi Illegal?... help!
The regulation here is hose connection at appliance and bottle, with a cut off valve between the supply pipe and hose at the appliance. Only time when you could come to grief with regulations is when you make an insurance
claim for a little accident.

Re: Gas Flexi Illegal?... help!
When i refitted my van after a fire we had to fit copper piping from the cooker the fridge and the propex heater to a tripple valve and only a short piece of rubber tube from the bottle to the valve. We had to do this as the insurance company wanted a gas safty certificate. Hope this helps
