AJT piston interchange

Post by Pat Dolan »

Sorry to have been gone so long, but our T3 project stalled a couple of years ago when I got far too busy trying to build new equipment for my business to play with cars and trucks.

We are putting an AJT (2.5TDI low HP) in '87 Westy Syncro. Got the SA bellhousing, rebuilt gearbox with decoupler, new mainshaft, taller/stronger top two cogs, new syncros, sleeves, forks, bearing, etc., have RSA Audi motormounts, all that good stuff. When we ran out of time, I had just pulled the injectors and pump to have Giles Gallie (in Toronto ON) build us a mechanical pump - which after looking for many months for 2.0 and 2.4 pumps for parts he did).

Now, HERE's the problem: when I pulled the injectors, dropped some bolts in the holes and essentially left for the summer and barely walked into the shop two winters. When we got back to work on the job, found that water had leaked through the roof, along a sheet of steel overhead, and dropped in a neat line RIGHT INTO THE INJECTOR WELLS! Three bores ruined by corrossion.

This engine was never sold over here, so does anyone have any idea what piston this is? Should interchange with SOME 2.0 4 banger, but which one??????? ( I am hoping it is the 2.0 PD ). Would rather go to pistons rather than sleeving the engine.

Regards - Pat

VW No. - 074 107 065 AA is for pistons 1&2
VW No. - 074 107 065 BA is for pistons 3.4 and 5

I just rang Kolbenshmidt for you, they gave me these numbers,

99 742 700
99 743 700

I then cross refered those numbers and those pistons only fit 5 cylinder engines, namely a whole hose of T4s, LT's and industrial engines.

Sorry.

As a guide price if I were to retail those here they would be £106.66 plus VAT
Amazingly they are sat on a shelf and can have them here next day, but I have a problem that I cannot export, but there are ways and means...

How about 1st and/or second oversize?

99 743 720

Can't check stock as I'm at home, a little pissed and wondering why I am sat here getting piston part numbers....

Simon:

This thing has been sitting about 2 years, so it (and I) can wait until Monday.

Simon:

Could you please verify that these are 0.5mm OS?? (In fact, if you can have someone look on a shelf and read that ACTUAL piston diameter, that would be helpful). We have to find out if the bore will clean up, so need to rough bore first, THEN order pistons if we can save the holes. BIG difference between 0.25mm OS (what my manual shows as available) and 0.5. To make matters worse, I changed video cards and now ETKA isn't all viewable...and Ican NOT see bloody piston page for AJT.

I will take computer with me this week (last week and a half were suppsed to be a "simple two day" job. Yeah.....

Thanks - Pat
