ARB Drop Link Bushes

I've got a "new" rattle on the front of the van and on close inspection it's the upper drop link bushes that have had it. One side is very worn down.

I need to use it for a run of about 14 miles each way this weekend and haven't got chance to replace the bushes before then.. Am I likely to cause any more damage to anything or should I be OK over 2 steady short trips, or should I leave it parked up until I sort it out net week?

I think I know the answer really but ....

Just looking for a bit of moral support really, Going to order some of the yellow polybush replacements off Mr Baxter early next week, anyone else fitted them and how hard a job is it, will I need to get the steering geometry set up again afterwards (sorry if that's a stupid question, but I honestly don't know the answer )

You wont do any harm by driving it over the distance you mention. Mr Baxters bushes are good and none of them are the easiest thing in the world to fit but at least you wont need to get your geometry reset.

One came adrift on my van so made a small press to fit it back in. Drove 100 miles with the rubber out of the eye and no damage was done, apart to my nerves!



It was a while ago but if i recall correctly I put the bush on ARB then used the press to pull the rubber into he eye.



The angle cut away was to take account of the bend near the end of ARB.

Brute strength and lube did it for me

I take the ARB off, hold it in the vise.
I then offer up the link rod with the bush already fitted and using a ratchet strap attached tp the bench I ratchet on the link rod.
They are a tw@, but taking the ARB off does make things a bit easier.

Did mine a few weeks ago as simon suggested using a rachet strap. Went on dead easy much easier than when I did my last van. Thanks for the tip simon.

Bo**ox ! Been underneath and drop link was badly corroded, gave it a shove & it's snapped. Glad I checked again before I set off. So as of Monday it's measuring and time to order a new pair of drop links and relevant bushes....

My wallet takes another kicking and I have to go out in the car this weekend now

You can drive a syncro without the ARB fitted. Mine handles just fine, in fact I didn't know it was removed when I bought the thing

Right, been out and removed the ARB and 2 sheared drop links.

Just need to wait until lower drop link bushes back in stock and then do the whole lot
