Oil Leak from cracked filler neck. Advice needed.
Hello All
My garage have diagnosed a serious oil leak from the oil filler neck on my 1.6TD Westy. They say that the plastic top part where you pour in the oil is fine, but the metal part that sits between the engine and the plastic top part is badly cracked and looks to have been very poorly welded in the past. They have phoned VW, Brickwerks and a range of other people I have suggested and they cannot find a replacement part for this engine. The feedback that my garage has recieved from these requests is that this metal part is unique to the 1.6td engines and is not available from VW suppliers in the UK.
(I've had a seach and look on the Wiki and I have had no luck resolving this issue)
The problem is that I go on holiday with my family in my camper next Friday and unless I can find a replacement oil filler neck and get it fitted in time, then the holiday is off. I havn't told the Mrs about this development yet. She would be gutted.
Does anybody have one of these parts spare or does anybody know where I can get one. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I really am in the hands of the Club 80-90 forum here.
Feeling a bit worried.

Hi
Just a thought, but for such a difficult part to source have you tried companies that recondition engines such as vege, elite etc, they may be able to help or send you on the right direction!
Also look on eBay Germany remember these buses are "t3" when searching.

I would braze an item like that rather than weld - couldn't the garage do that?

Thanks for your replies guys.
We have contacted Vege, but I will Elite as well. I'll try and have a look on German ebay too, but I worry about language barrier issues and the length of time it would take for the item to be delivered. Is there no way to view the German Ebay site in English? If there was a German supplier that I could phone or email it would be easier
My garage says they can fabricate a repacement if needed, but would rather just bolt on a spare. Has anyone fabricated one of these before. Is there anything I can pass on to my garage?
I found someone who had the part, but it was attached to an engine that he wanted to sell in one piece.
What I don't understand is why a part like this would be cracked in the first place.
I'd still be up for any suggestions about where to source a replacement metal oil filler neck.
Cheers

Use Google translator (the browser based one) when using ebay.de - makes it a good deal simpler.
Alternatively if you use Firefox, try this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3361/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Oil Leak from cracked filler neck. Advice needed.
Thanks for your help on this guys. My garage repaired my existing oil filler neck today, by brazing it. I'm still not sure what the difference between brazing and welding is. I havn't had a chance to pick up the van yet, but they said that its come out fine and shouldn't be giving me any more troubles with leaking. My garage specialises in Morris Minors, MGs and Land Rovers, so they are a little unfamiliar with the common issues relating to T25s. Once they realised that there was no real chance of finding a replacement part, they were happy just to fix the one I had.
Thanks again all

Yup, agree too, seems garage did too, if you put up a (clear closeup) pic I'm sure we could say that it would or wouldn't ever be likely to break.. it shouldn't if brazed properly (any reinforcing added?)
It could have been hit from underneath, for some reason they do indeed get bent occasionally
Alternatively, it could have cracked from vibration (fatigue)
