Oil Leak..advice
Hi Guys and Gals ,I have a 1990 1.6td camper with about 90,000 on the clock...As with most diesels it has the odd oil drip which is parr for the course. However after returning from our holiday in Wales in which we did a fair bit of long hill climbing in the van ,I noticed the back of the silencer had a coating of oil around the bottom pulley area. Could this be the crankshaft oil seal?? and what kind of job is it to fix. We plan another long trip in the van in a few weeks and wonder how urgent I should view this leak? and what is it likely to cost me to fix??
Thanks Mark

Re: Oil Leak..advice
I have a 1.6d and found that the sump bolts were all loose! Tightened them all up and it reduced the leak! Think it is leaking from somewhere else now but I intend to change the sump gasket sometime!
Failing that check it regularly and carry a lot of oil!

Re: Oil Leak..advice
Ta for that Russonly, my problem is that the oil makes a right mess on the silencer and of course oil+ hot silencer = stink. Has anyone replaced an oil seal on a diesel engine???
