Jed, have said this before but there are two holes in air filter intake, one is a drain hole in the base of the filter box, the other is at the bottom of the snorkel pipe in the base of the elbow, its designed to let any slight ingress of rain water out before it gets to the filter but was not designed to cope with loons like us who purposefully try floating our vans!

I do understand the "marigold glove" over the dizzy

Where does the air inlet take in air to allow it to fill with water :?:
You`ll have to forgive me I`m an "air cooled" convert that has come over to "the dark side"

More to the point how to get over it?

Jed what are these "top tips" that you are keeping close to your chest? Do we need to cross your palm with silver for such info, we wont tell anyone.....honest

The two small holes are one in the bottom of the filter box,[ remove the filter to see it ] and also look behind the plastic cover where the air feed pipe comes down into the engine bay, very difficult to see as this as its rivetted in but first remove the tail lght on the offside rear, if you can see the plastic elbow, this is where there is a second hole on the underside, hope this helps.
