water pump for 1.9

Hi all!

Can anyone help me with a confusing water pump issue? I own a 1986 1.9 petrol T25 called Basil but Basil is fawlty at the moment! (excuse the pun) . I have bought a replacement pump from Just kampers which is supposed to be correct for this model although it has the extra pipe for the oil cooler. This I don't need as Basil's engine is not fuel injected. Just Kampers tell me this is the only type of pump available for the 1.9 and 2.1 of this age. I have decided to return the pump although did consider capping the extra pipe, but this would be a bodge job and not the way I want to do things.
Have I got my wires crossed and does anyone know of the best place to look for a new pump?

Simply block cap the spigot... that's all VW did

same pump, get used to making do mate as it will happen again with other stuff

short bit of hose insert bolt with sealent attach jubilee if you cant get proper blanking bit.thats how mine is.

I can't remember if the spare hole was threaded on mine or if I put a thread into it, any way with the thread I put a bolt in with a washer and a bit of thread lock and job done.
If your not happy to do it or don't have a tap and die set then a local garage should do it for you.

Thanx I took your advice and modified the pump, managed to tap a bolt in with some sealant. The bus is now back to life although a few issues still need addressing. A flat spot in first gear on depressing the accelerator and very small leak from the thermostat sensor. The flat spot may be a timing issue but the engine sounds fine on tick-over or it maybe the small fuel pump under the Carb' ,not sure what it's called, works on a small cam? Anyway apart from this, replacing some fuel pipe, sorting some rust on the body and getting it through it's MOT I'm optimistic that we'll be back on the road for the summer!

pull the little pump out and check the diaphragm for a split, they are still available.

if its "dropping dead" just as you want to pull out of a junction etc, then check the vac advance unit on the dizzy, when these develop a leak the timing doesnt get advanced when you touch the throttle and causes the engine to "stumble"
