Warped head? 1.6n/a

Post by lhd »

I recently changed the head gasket and since have had a pretty bad oil leak from around No.2 cylinder injection pump side, there was no leak before the change and the gasket although maybe a year old was an Erling one.It was all tightenend in sequence and to the instruction in the Bently manual and is definitely coming from the head gasket.

Would a warped head show itself before the gasket change or only after?
I used the old head bolts to align the gasket so doubt it is fitted in the wrong place, and know its not been fitted upside down.
Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Gasket was changed with same as... ie three notches and was changed to try and cure a vacuum problem which ended up being the oil pump.
As fo the cylinder I would say its between one and two from the drivebelt and looking at a blown up pic of a head gasket from Brickwerks it looks like it could be the oval hole between one and two.

Im wondering if the gasket has become damaged somehow as I remember there being a rubber type oval ring around the same position that the leak is coming from. Its all going to have to come off anyhow. :(

the oil feed to the head is between cylinders 3+4. i replaced the gasket on my van recently,[ the oval rubber seal had colapsed allowing oil to get into the water].Interestingly the "Bentley book" has two photos of the head gasket and one is shown upside down!!. also i seem to rember one of the pictures on "Brickwerks" is upside down, still you will find out when you pull the head off!!.
good luck.
