Emergency!

Post by ATO »

Just lost the water pump belt 20 miles from home and I've had to leave it in a no parking spot..it's a 1.6TD, does anyone know the size of the belt as I need to get one from Hellfords first thing in the morning..also which pulley do you have to take off to replace the belt? Is it the water pump pulley or the bottom one? Many thanks for any help!!

should be the lower pulley and the original belt size is (was) 9.5 x 643.

9.5 has pretty much disappeared from the market, so you need to get the 10 equivalent

Ok..done a bit of searching and looks like the belt is 10x650 and the water pump pulley is in two halves.
Any advice on locking the pulley while undoing the bolts?

E D I T just seen your post..will 10x650 be ok? that seems to be the size that Justkampers are selling

sorry, can't help you there ...I've got a different setup (two alternators, double pulley) and only the lower pulley splits on mine

E D I T 10 x 650 sounds about right ...as the belt is wider it also needs to be longer to have the same circumference on the pulleys

Hi ATO
Normally you can hold two sides of the belt together.
You can undo two of the bolts by using two allen keys / torx / spanners, hold one whilst undoing other.
Remove shims to tighten belt.
Hope this helps.

This post reminds me to make-up (and carry in the van) a basic spares kit :ok
