bike rack

Post by melmelody »

hi all ,
just a quick one i dont suppose anyone has a photo of how a paulchen bike rack is supposed to mount to the bottom of the tailgate? i got one with my van last year and have just tried to fit it but it seems to me that there are parts missing although there is a bag full of various brackets none of them seem to fit correctly.i have tried various internet sites to no avail and any that do have pictures are to small to make out how tha brackets fit.if i have no luck on here i think i'll have to 'modify' it to fit with a grinder. any piccies gratefully recieved. cheers, mel.

I know there are at least 2 versions of the bottom bracket though, some screw through the tailgate rather than hook over like this one
What a long strange trip it's been

hi andy,
thats brilliant mate. these are just what i needed to see.it appears then that i do have all the correct brackets plus some additional ones so that was what was throwing me i think. looks like all i need to do is purchase a couple of longer bolts as the ones i've got are slightly too short and then add some sort of a bush between the bracket and the rack and bobs your uncle.thanks again for uploading the piccies its made some space in my garage and it'll stop me cursing every time i trip over it

Hi, ive also bought a paulchen recently, and installed it the weekend. I done it the same as the one above, no holes or mounts on the bodywork.

But the holes for the bottom mounts, were at the wrong angle for my T3 and I drilled some new ones.

Also the bottom bar covers the key hole too. Mine looks longer than the one above, as i had to put the bottom bar under the lip of that bottom mount and also a spacer between the bar. Which also acts to secure it tightly too.

Makes me wonder if its a T4 bike rack and not a T3, but ive installed and its quite secure.

Is there a a T4 and T3 version, which look very similiar?

I think I know whats missing my my bike rack now.

I dont have the support struts which go from the bumper to the rack. Which keeps the rack in place in the vertical plane. The clips which go under the boot door are to stop it from moving out horizontally.

At the moment Im using the clips to keep it tightly fastened down on the boot. I put a space bolt inbetwen the clip and the rack cos without this it wouldnt be tight.

Also my my rack is resting on boot door, and taking the paint off, luckily the boot door will be replaced anyway.
