FINALY GOT IT!!!!!

Post by mcgill5 »

i have been after a tri-star doka (rhd) never been abused! for about 6 or 7 years! picked it up last night in Fort William. only got it cos the guy called me 6 or 7 months ago asking how the diff lock could jam on after a vw garage had just fitted a new clutch. they said it was nothing to do with them (after charging him £800) i made him an offer on it but he said no,and he was going to fight it with them to sort it out. they didnt and i went up and picked it up last night! :D the craziest thing is,he actually owned nevis vw garage in fort william from the early 80s til 2002 when he sold the franchise to Hawco VW. he still owns the building and rents it to them!!! all his old stock was put in a locked cage all these years as they wouldnt sell it for him, he went to get all his stock recently and surprise surprise all the starters, alternators, bumpers(goodies) had dissapeared through the locked cage! all the other stuff (loads) i bought as a job lot and paid more than i wanted(should have) for the rest, but rather than see the same thing as another retired(enthusiast  ) from edinburgh just skip and scrap all his stuff(t4+t3 variant panels, beetle doors etc) cos nobody had given him top dollar for what was left! so i have loads of trim, gaskets, lights, exhausts, brake parts, speaker upgrades, towbars and even a ski rack, carpet mats, boxes and boxes of spark plugs for polos, golfs passats and santanas! take forever to get money back but rather that than the bin! :ok
by the way,its white 78k, 4 owners (realy 2) almost full vw history and realy good condition(nearly as good as robert westlings to begin with)
have to decide which route to go soon with it! cheers mcgill

took gearbox out today to see why diff lock was still on,it appears that they told him his van was ready and he collected and drove along the road a bit, thought it didnt seem right and drove back to garage. they said that the diff lock was on and they would try to free it off! the pin has been butchered to get it (look like its off) but it has already wound the box up(no teeth broken off but some marking on diff!) going to write a letter for the guy and see if he can claim them for bad workmanship! cheers mcgill
