Are these any use (taken with tailgate open and up):

Fwiw, to get the tailgate to lock with the central locking we had to make sure the tailgate lock (keyhole bit) is all the way to the left (it's a three stage lock: all the way to the left = central locking, vertical-ish = locked by the key, all the way to the right = unlocked by the key).

Here's a video that might help to see how the central locking system works (vid shows it unlocked, then locked, then unlocked again).

Bus is with the mechanic still at the moment, so cant take a pic.

But I dont think I have that slider thing at all on mine. So I guess a specific boot lock or additional slider is needed.

Easy to forget for the lazy central locking generation! Mine has now chimed in and works a treat :D
Tip : make sure the sliding stirrup (and the little vertical spring plunger) is free and well greased! Make sure there's no lumpy corrosion on the two little ramped detents for the plunger, so it's doesn't jam either (swiss file needed)

Hi there
The central locking on our T25 has just stopped working. I can manually lock all the doors except for the drivers door, which just stays unlocked. When I press it from the inside and hold down the handle on the outside it just pops back up. We're going camping on Thursday (maiden camping voyage) ... any ideas for quick fix or if this a long job!?
Many Thanks

I've just aquired a decent GL tailgate with all the trimmings! It's filling the hole in the back of the bus while the proper one is being repaired.

Of course, now the bus has been stood for a while, the c/l has gone all wonky anyway. The remote (TOAD) takes multiple presses (the actuators are lazy) and the slider won't lock at all
I've been round and disturbed all the connectors and oiled all the mechanisms but it's still a pig to lock. Advice?
I hope that the alarm/immob hasn't gone up the wall and it's just bad earthing.

I've almost finished retro fitting CL to my '85 GL, but could do with a few photos of what it should look like in the boot, if anyone could oblige please?

Also, for the boot, does anyone know if the latch attached to the chassis is universal for CL or no CL? Is it just the lock mech that is different?

By boot do you mean tailgate?

What do you mean by latch?

I retrofitted the CL in mine.
the tailgate motor bracket (carrier - 251 862 173 ) is riveted to the tailgate, the holes are already there. The motor couples to the tailgate lock via Connecting Rod 251 862 175 - both parts are available from VW Classic.

Only the lock is different.

You should be able to construct a connecting rod and drill a hole your existing lock.

I see that one side has a proper dent and the other a ramp. But the dent is causing my lock to jam on the left handside and then the motor cant oush it out. Doesn't look like a dent there helps at all and should be a ramp like on the other side so will file it down too.
