2-way Fridge conversion

Post by Sugar Spun Sisters »

I have an Electolux RM122 2-way fridge (gas and 12 volt) in my camper. As I have hook up, I'd like the fridge to run off mains electric. Is it possible to convert a 2-way fridge to 3-way? Someone I know mentioned getting a transformer wired in. I know nothing about electrics, but is that easy/cheap to do or would it be better just to replace the fridge with a 3-way? Thanks

get a transformer wired in.
you'll need a transformer that bungs out 7 amps then.

You could probably replace the 12v element with a 240v volt one, I suppose - but bodging and mains voltage don't really mix.

the fridge has been built to be a 3 way.

the just dont fit the 240v element!

carefully remove the straps around the insulation , the insulation is actually in 2 halves , not wrapped around the tube as you would imagine!

you will then see the 12 v element and the hole ready to except tyhe 240v element!

ideally you need the control nob/unit from another fridge to get it to vary the coolness, otherwise its freeze time!

plenty of scrap fridges about
