my idle stabilizing unit is missing

Post by karl40 »

Hello all, i have ongoing problems with ignition and timing and i have found that the idle stabilizing unit is missing and the connections that would have plugged in there have been joined together. Is this a problem as i cant seem to buy one anywhere??

there are a few ISU's around, but as billy says, you don't really need it. I had this panic when my ignition went arry and noticed it was missing. If i recall correctly, the ISU is more to do with stabilising the charge from the alternator (or something like that) for internal lights etc.

Hi,

When we bought our van, this was missing but we managed to get a new one from JK. Don't know if they still do them though - it was a couple of years ago now and cost about £70.

As everyone says, they seem to work fine without them with the connectors plugged together...

Thanks,

Chris

The only time I notice the ISU effect is when setting the idle mixture & tickover (when the ISU is by-passed). When the monster cooling fan kicks in, the engine revs dip almost to the point of stalling but a little throttle blip picks it up. Otherwise I'm not sure the £70 JK charge is worth it.
