Right I'm finished work for my hols.
We're meant to be leaving fo Cornwall early Tuesaday, all I've got to do first is fit a new engine.
My early EJ22 has died. It's was over heating and using water since we came home form Pickering. I changed the head gaskets last week but unfortunately it didn't help, so this morning I find myself faced with an egine swap.
I can't get hold of the same early EJ22 as I had, the only thing I can get at this short notice is a much later EJ20, but I need to get this to run with the early wiring and ecu thats fitted to the van. As you may have seen on here the wiring is possibly the most time consuming part of these conversions and I haven't got time or the ecu and harness/immobiliser that goes with this engine.
I'm working (hoping) on the principle that under all the sensors its just moving metal that the sensors and ecu watch and as long as they keep seeing something to watch then then we'll all be happy.
If it works we'll see you in Cornwall, if not then you hear me scream........
Mike.

Re: Time to get busy Subaru EJ22-EJ20 Engine swap
Well we made it.
There was no time for messin just had to make it work.
Finished about 9pm Monday and left 5am Tuesday, no time for much testing!!!
The look on Tracy's face when I confidently told her if we make it south of Southwaite services we'll be ok, was worried to say the least. Only small hicup was a loose starter cable when we stopped for gas, click then nothing but fortunately easily fixed on the forecourt.
Its not got the guts of the old engine, I was embarrased to let a T4 pass me up hill just after Oakhampton, but the fuel ecconomy has improved so it'll do till an EJ25 turns up.

Re: Time to get busy Subaru EJ22-EJ20 Engine swap
There is a bit of making stuff fit and swapping bits over. Changing plugs on sensors., cam and crank timing wheels and pick up sensors. Underneath its just pistons cams etc. Any ecu just needs the right signals to know what to do with the fuel and sparks, fortunately the subaru ecu is also intelligent and can rewirte its own map Its not as good as it was before, perhaps I'm being a bit hard on it as its fully loaded and lost 200cc compared to last week, but its running well enough. I've only got the phone to post now so I'll do a write up when I get back.
