Hi Guys

Ok so today I disconnected everything on the gear box and all I need to do now is remove the box from the engine.

It doesn't want to come off though , I have disconnected the starter motor wiring but should I take starter off too????
Will the box come away easily or do you have to wrestle it out?

A bolt goes thro the starter to the engine! hence why it wont come off

I think I said earlier on you can leave wires on starter, just remove it and tie up out the way.

So I do have to unbolt the starter motor then, it did not say that in haynes manual.
I thought it cam off with gear box.

Personally I'd take it off (yes you have to ubdo the top bolt at least) as its another lump of metal you have to deal with on a already heavy gearbox..

If the electrical connections look scabby, then you may want to consider leavin them on and tying up as suggested, but it might also be a good time to fix them while you have much more space in there...

Morning guys

I have the gearbox out and have found the flywheel to look a little scored, whats worse though is I have found inside the hole of the fly wheel what looks like a destroyed needle/roller bearing lots of pieces of metal like pencil leads.

Is there a bearing inside and what do I need to do ?

Do I replace the flywheel or get it machined and how easy is it to get flywheel off do I need to mark it for repositioning?

anything else that might need changing if this has failed?

If the spigot bearing has collapsed I would change the gearbox main shaft seal while your at it, they're only a couple of quid.
When the spigot bearing collapses or is missing the main shaft seal is put under severe duress due to the main shaft flailing about and usually fails.
You dont want to be changing that after you have put it all back together.

Hi everyone

How do I remove whats left of the spigot bearing, does the crankshaft oil seal need to come out?
Whats involved in refitting the bearing and felt washer?
I will get the flywheel machined tomorrow.

M6 rawlbolt, M6 threaded rod, several nuts and washers and a heavyish weight with a small hole up it ....use this to cunningly fashion an expanding end slide hammer. Works on the wbx size, sorry the one I linked to is w/c and maybe not a/c.

ok but is it behind the crankshaft seal or can I pull it out with out removing that, it is hard to tell as I don't see much bearing left at all.

Re-read the PM to you.

Take the seal etc out, replace the seal, keep the shims (if they're in an a/c ?) in order. If the spigot bearing has decomposed some of the parts could end up behind the seal etc as you take the bearing out
