Syncro 16 Caliper
Hi, Can anyone out there offer advice on sourcing front calipers for a '16'? The metal 'balance' pipe has blown on the front o/s and corrosion has done its job on the pipe fittings so that removal proving impossible. Need a rapid fix as its (was!) in daily use.
many thanks, Claude

Re: Syncro 16 Caliper
The caliper is the same as any other T3. It is just mounted out further to accept the larger disc. A new or recon one available from usual suspects. Syncrospares may have a box full they do not advertise on the web. Give them a call.

PS where in Devon are you, whats your ride. (is it the orange one I see about Cullompton?)

Re: Syncro 16 Caliper
If you have the old one then take it to any GSF and they will swap it for a new one as a trade in. There are two kinds though a girling one and another kind so ring up first to make sure they have them. No need to fit a second hand one as new ones dont cost that much (same as a 14") and GSF will knock you a fair whack off if you ask for your club80-90 discount

Re: Syncro 16 Caliper
Hi, Thanks for the replies. Having taken the affected caliper off, my describing the pipe as a balance pipe was a bit off the mark! Now its in the vice it is obviously the metal pipe joining the flexible hose to the caliper body, but I guess you already knew that!
Chances of undoing the bleed nipple.............significantly less than getting the pipe off!
Thanks for the help, Claude
Yes its the orange one that you saw on the Blackdowns. If I was towing a Haflinger I was off to a trial.

Re: Syncro 16 Caliper
If you get stuck with the bleed nipple give us a shout, a blob of weld on it usually heat shocks it out, and then gives something for the mole grips to bite on.

All the 16"s I've seen have had ATE calipers.
GSF don't do ATE calipers.

You'll know this then, Simon. Can you just replace the ATE calipers with the Girling jobs as long as you do the pair?

Re: Syncro 16 Caliper
I've had a few brake issues with my 16" ATE's (seals and piston was fubar). I've used this company as they do seal kits as well as calipers and pisons. Very helpfull on the blower and sent stuff out asap. They get the thumbs up from me.

Yep, it was from a late caravelle gl. I have the girling ones on the doka and it defiantly wasn't the same as that one and there are no other kinds left.
