Heater fan test ...

Post by Ian Hulley »

Can you bench test a heater fan in it's housing for noise ?

A chum has kindly offered a complete housing and before I start open-dash surgery on The Bus I'd like to know that all's well.

Of course you can,,,,,But it may be turning at full speed if it is not wired through the resistor.......and seeing as most heater motor noise issues tend to be highlighted during the slower speeds......

If yours is making a noise and you have to remove the dash anyway to get to it ( and it is working OK other than making a noise) I would have to blast the end bearings with a suitable silicone spray.... before changing it for another complete unit.

 Sadly our's swallowed a piece of one of the directional fins off the dashboard vents about 5 years ago and this has since worked it's way into the fan, turning from a lottery machine styleee  into a grinding scrawk

One fears tis only a matter of time :?

Cheers, Ian.
