Painting chrome bumpers?

Post by 72BUG »

Hi all.

My chrome bumpers are a bit dinged and ratty and could do with a refurb. I'm not a big fan of the chrome anyway so I'm thinking of straightening them out and levelling them with a skim of filler then painting them either matt or satin black. I've never tried spraying onto chrome before and was wondering if it would take. Can I use normal primer and paint or would I need a special paint?

Has anyone else sprayed theirs and what were the results?

Thanks.
Martin.

They will need "keying" with wet & dry first.
I painted some chrome on motorbike I once had without problems
(mind you it was an Italian bike from the 70's and therefore came with water soluble chrome).

Yeah I'd love to Rick, It'd save me a job, but I don't think they'll be any good to you. They're a bit creased and the rear one has a hole about the size of a 2p rusted through. I can send you a couple of pictures if you like.
