Its taken me about 30 hours just to prep the front of me van and its in reasonable condition, apart from the bit right at the bottom behind the bumper,
Now a question for all you peeps.
Has anyone on here just tried painting the Rustoleum straight on with a paintbrush? reason i,m asking is that bit behind the bumper on the front and below bumper at back of van i have painted on with a brush and it looks better than some of the parts i,ve rollered, and i,m very happy with the results of the roller. So is there anyone on here who has brushed it on the whole van and if so what where the results

I'll probably get it rubbed down tomorrow evening (5pm till dark), finish that off on friday (5pm till pub), be out at 6am ish on saturday to wake the neighbours up with the angle grinder in the seams and aim to be vactan'd up by lunch. Afternoon off on Saturday and back out at 4ish to seam seal and then spray some primer over at about 8 followed by a final smoothdown of those areas and a final wash down. Painting at 5am sunday.
Not quite as energetic as the video clip, more a few strokes with a big dry brush to flatten the bubbles and then leave well alone. Going to have a go at the other side, roof, and fiddley bits this weekend.

Having seen the pic in your garage Martin, I'm confused as to why you're painting it – your van looks mint!

no thats my westy ime painting a panel van, managed to save most of the paint, first coat on today ime amazed how good and smooth it looks ( 20% white spirit)

Bit risky on whole van (runs a plenty) but areas you mention are fine with a brush.
Martin T25 - what RAL shade is that. Need colour for WIKI - cheers.

I'm relatively new to the forum (although I have been lurking for some time) but have been following this thread with great interest. In fact I am currently in the process of prepping my van for a colour change from white to Nato Green. I've got all the kit including the paint and have been practicing on a scrap bonnet from a 106 (which now looks like it came off a tank!).
My question is, at what point do you need to tell the DVLA that you have changed the colour of the vehicle? Does it need doing as soon as the first coat is on or is there some leeway? And what about if I've only painted some of the panels? With the way the weather is at the moment I don't know how much I will get done before it's either too hot or too wet to paint.
Does anyone know the position with this? Please only tell me if you know for sure - it could be expensive to get it wrong!

Cheers, maybe i will stick to rollering the main panels but the more tricky parts its got to be the old paint brush seems to give a good finish where i have brushed it

I'm heading over to Wales to visit the inlaws in a week's time, so I want to order it over there and bring it back on the ferry.
I can't decide on a colour....first I was going to go for RAL 5002 (Ultramarine blue), then Pigeon/Dove Blue (RAL 5014).
But now I'm thinking of Gentian Blue (RAL 5010). I think the syncro below is very close to Gentian Blue although I don't know what paint brand was used.
E D I T: I've now ordered two 2.5 litre tins of Gentian Blue RAL 5010 and one 2.5 litre tin of White RAL 9010 for the pop-top.

Just got me first coat on the front of van (rest has already had two coats two weeks ago now just waiting for it to harden so i can give it a rub before final coat) What a palava the front of van is, the bits around the wiper stems and washer/squirty thingys, i have made a right pigs ear of that part or it so now its let it dry and have another go after a bit of a sand around these dam obstacles i suppose its me own fault for not removeing these to make it easier for meself, Bugger.
Anyway another mistake i wont make is to try and paint a light colour RAL1015 in bright sunlight could not see a dam thing hardly, even with me shades on. Grrr bloody weather i,m never happy
Removing the washer jets can result in breakages, lost water pipes with the dash coming out to find them again and plenty of swearing. Best to paint around them with a brush as best as possible I reckon
