What is it? It's part of Cooling System.

Post by TenorJules »

Hi

Hope I can describe this. The hoses that run to and from the thermostat then connect onto the pipes that run to the radiator and back again - In the middle of these hoses there's a black plastic 'thing'. Four large hoses join onto this 'thing' plus a smaller hose that also looks to be part of the cooling system. It also has something that can be turned, I don't know what this does. My black plastic 'thing' is cracked and I need to replace it. I triend to post a picture but it made this post too large.

Jules

I know what you are describing, it it the middle of the pipes that run across the rear of the engine bay.... Ive read threads on here before where people vastly more knowlegeable than I have said you cant get them new anymore, so if you need ne you would have to either repair, or source from a breakers. The 'valve' turning bit you described is a bleed vent point. but even if you do away with this 9and some have had to) you can bleed system in other ways...

vw call it a junction
it depends which year and engine and weather there's a webasto heater or not as to which one you have but they are obsolete from vw so you'll need one from a breaker that matches yours

thanks, at least i feel like I'm getting somewhere now. I'd thought about repairing it but as it's a presurised system not sure what to use.

It's my best guess at
In the middle of these hoses there's a black plastic 'thing'.
It's where one side of the front > back and heater hoses join up, it's secured to the front of the engine bulkhead on the later cooling system.

Crystal ball goes back in it's box

VW-sml.jpg
Is this the part you need ??
Located on large hoses between thermostat/water pump and pipes to radiator and one smaller hose connector.
Hose stubs are for about 1 1/2 in (38mm) diam hoses.
This is off early type cooling circuit, 1.9 petrol
I have one spare and For Sale. no cracks and the bleeder (!) knob is not seized.
The cruddy appearance looks to be from underbody sealer by a previous carer!
PM me
