Noisy relay

Have just fitted a duel charge system and relay as per the wiki diagram but i have a noisy relay, when i say noisy it buzz's when you accelerate then stops at about 40 then as you slow down it starts again until the engine is on tickover so the buzz relates to the engine speed/revs...

any ideas

what did you connect the trigger wire to?

To the little wire coming out of the altinator, thats if you mean the wire to #86 on the relay

Two possible reasons I can think of then.
your Alternator regulator/brush pack is possibly worn out or faulty.
or the relay is the issue.
Someone may have an alternative view

I think it's the first.
can you get hold of another unit?

I'll try swapping the relay first, have tested the output of the altinator and its 13.8v

not good at 13.8.. 14.2 would be better.
I changed my brush pack recently and we chuck 14.2v at the battery now.

It was at 13.5 before

located on the back of the alt, two small screws and the assembly pulls out.

ah that is a good question...
I had a source here in the midlands but two duff units has put me off.
They cost around a tenner and no more than fifteen quid.

An alternator refurb engineers could help, or maybe someone on here could point you (and me!) to a reputable source.

I wonder if i have the right wire? there is the big red wire, and 2 not 1 smaller wire

Kev..I was responsible for the original post recommending that supplier for bush packs.
Mine has been fitted for nearly two years now without any problems. (mine wiring is completely original and unmolested)
I know you say you have had two duff ones but how sure are you of your diagnosis....you have to admit that there is a lot going on with your wiring and that could have been the reason for the failures or faults....just saying.

Mine only does 13.8. Had a new regulator fitted last year when in N. Ireland

VW/Bosch voltage output tollerance: 13.9 to 14.2 volts. Most OEM regulators were made by Beru.
