1.6 Diesel cooling system

Post by tonyandjulie »

Ive read the varying posts re bleeding the cooling system and im confused as to the best way to do it for my van.

I have emptied the system at the cooling pipes at the front above the spare wheel, reconnected them, filled the system at the header tank and run the engine till the pipes in the engine bay are very hot. I opened the bleed screw on the top of the rad but keep getting cold water from it and not much air. The pipes at the back are very hot but as the water is cold Im guessing the water does not appear to be circulating to the rad.I may have not left the engine running long enough to open the thermostat, how long should this take without driving the van ?. Am I doing the process right ?.Help !!!
I have no idea where it came from, or what it is, but it's looking right at me.

the only thing I'd be watching is the temp gauge.
if there's no air then drive it
