Hook up Cable, Colour

Post by meggles »

Does the hook up cable have to be orange? What type of cable does it have to be? I've just been to the local B&Q and they tried to sell me ordinary 3 core extension lead  I KNOW that's not suitable. I have the plugs, just need the cable.
Thanks folks

I've got two, one orange and one yellow.

I don't think the colour matters one jot, they're just made that way so the muppet camped next door to you sees it and doesn't trip over it on the way to the loo........... :D

Kev, I only asked 'cos I was buying some electrical stuff for the house. Local caravan place quoted £45 for a length of cable with plugs!
I have the plugs but they don't sell cable seperately.
Q:What type of cable?
A:Hook up cable. Ha bloody ha!

Needs to be frost resistant, plus bright as possible so you can see it and not trip over it ! Good version is from abuilders merchant , get a 110v extension lead (yellow) and change the plugs for 240v 16 amp ones!

It doesn't have to be orange, no - but it's considerate to your neighbours to have it as noticable a colour as possible.

That's the stuff, available from Screwfix Direct but it's expensive. Cheaper to buy a ready made hook up cable from Argos. :)

The yellow are only rated for 110v and you are advocating use for 240v? It is rated at 110v for a reason.
Not very good practice or advice.
