mot rules mainbeam dash light

Post by jtwhitestar »

My dash console is slowly giving up.
first the digi clock then the clock lights and now oil and main beam lights. i know the problem is due broken plastic and connecters.
my question is do i need a full beam indicater for the mot and can i bridget flimsy circuit board to make them work.
do not like not having a oil light.

Pretty sure you have to have certain warning lights on the dash which includes main beam warning.

If the whole thing is so stuffed, consider ebay for a replacement? Rev counter models go for £100+ but standard ones as little as £25 (although the one on at the moment is starting at £80!)

If you are good with a soldering iron then you can replace the filmy connecting thing with vero board and wires (as someone has done on here).

If time is tight for the MOT, perhaps you could borrow a dash for a day then repair yours at leisure?

You've already posed this question https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=68902" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

However, you can get paint-on conductive paint (used one rear screen heater elements etc) which might save the day.

high beam indicator is mot requirement
board can also be repaired using conductive paint to repair poor tracks at the edge connector and elsewhere if you need to, the edge connector tacks obviously are open, but the rest of the board is laminated and you'll need to remove the upper layer where repairing and then cover with insulating tape once fixed
