flat spots

Hi, i've been using the van for the last week just to ensure it will get me to newquay and although it drives good upto 50mph. Anything after this it gets flat spots and seems to get upto 60odd and does no more, it was capable of doing 80 with ease a couple of years ago. I've had it serviced and have put one of those NASA fuel additives in with a fuel tank of fuel to try and clear the carburettor.
It has only done 75,000 miles which I have records for, am I expecting to much or is it possible to re-create those days of 80 without dropping a porker engine in..
Does anyone know what could be causing the flat spots..?

Sounds like fuel starvation ... did you change the tank filter ? What about the carb line filter ? Perhaps your rocket fuel additive has dislodged some cr@p ?

Hi, Ian long time no speak.. My fault I know.

I have not changed the tank filter that could be my next job, that and the the fuel lines, I'm hoping this is what it is because I seem to have tried most other things, Thanks for the Advice..

haha, maybe it was the rocket fuel additive and the T25 that were never supposed to meet. I only went into one of those automotive shops for Red-eye and seem to come out with half the shop, including some furry dice which i'm fairly sure wont aid the cause..

As Ian suggests and..

check the distributor avance mechanism is working. both mechanicaly and with the vacuum.
.. and the choke pull down unit is opening the second venturi at full throttle.

has it been stood a lot over winter squire? wonder if its some damp in the dizzy and ht leads.
