High top in windy conditions

The last couple of times I have driven down the motorway I have been caught by some strong crosswinds and ended up having a wrestling match with the steering wheel to try and keep in the same lane.
I realise that as I have a high top it is going to be more prone to this than most.

Is there a way to try and increase stability?

I was thinking along the lines of having the suspension lowered or putting some sort of fairing below the front bumper.

.... lower it 50mm and fit a genuine spoiler then sort the tracking, camber, castor.

Ah the good ole scrap with the crosswinds. I always get into a good fight with it in our hightop.

1) Invest in a front spoiler, the original 5 piece ones aren't cheap (£100 ish) but they don't shatter when they get the slightest stone-chip.

2) Invest in the Powerflex steering rack bushes from Brickwerks

3) If you still can't drive your van in high winds ... get a refund on your driving test

I know it's a long time ago but even when our's was a tip top it still got buffetted (can't beat a good buffet ) by cross-winds the roof makes very little difference to be completely honest.

Check your steering column bushes. All of them and I dont mean the donuts either. You need to check the two that fit between the collapsible point at the bottom. They are available from Just Kampers.

Replaced mine about 6 months ago and boy does it drive better even in high winds.....Mine is a high top also.
You need to check your anti roll bar link bushes and ensure that your tyres are inflated to correct pressures. These vary dependingon what your loaded with obviously. Have a look for any cracks / crazing in your tyre walls as this wont help either as its a sign that your tyres are old and are becoming weak..

I have always wanted a spoiler for the fron...more for the looks really but cant bear to part with that kind of cash....thats me b eing a tighteus....

I had a few pant changing moments in high winds too but I did the above and it drives great now.

Mine is a high top also and i have no problems in high winds

As a person who has driven lorries, buses and a hell of a lot of vans for a living I'd just say high winds + high sides = buffeting. You may be able to improve it slightly as suggested above but it's always gonna happen. Just do what the rest of us do and hold on tight.

I picked my van up from north west Scotland, I had a bit of a battle with cross winds when i was driving round the mountains, and this was the first time i had driven a T25, it added a bit of drama to my otherwise boring drive back to Surrey !!
