Re: Collapse of the euro?
That's the thing about predictions! (Although logic of the PIGS economies makes it seem likely)

I'm hoping for at least 2=1, I may then be able to get that house & land in South Brittany. Here's hoping!!
I hope you have nothing to do with 'futures' or currency markets .......
£1 = €1.09

Come on the PIIGS....
I think you will find that the UK sterling is falling against the dollar just as much as the euro is! Sterling has made no gains against the dollar since this time 12 months ago and the Euro has only lost 3 cent since this time 12 months ago. Now that your election is over its time to take your bitter pill. Iceland has, Greece has, Sweden has, Finland has,Ireland is, Portugal is, Spain is. No political party would tell you guys the bitter truth at election time. Rumour has it that the UK is on the list of countries that needs a bail out!
The International Monetary Fund is NOT the UK by the way and no you didnt lend anybody $1,000,000,000,000. There is a fund set up by the EU and the IMF to stave off speculators attacking weak countries banks.
And did you know that Romania is the 6th Eastern European country to be bailed out in recent months..... Bet you didnt hear that on the BBC!
And do you know why the UK isnt in the Euro? No its not because the UK wanted to keep its Sterling, its because the UK failed to meet the criteria set out by the EU - Bet you didnt hear that on the BBC!
The Euro is good and you probably thought so whilst you were travelling around Europe last week. Most of us travelled through 4 countries with the same currency - how handy was that! I travelled through 5!
It has been said that most of you got a rate of nearly £1 : €1, how things change. It used to be £0.65 : €1 not that long ago.
"the IMF (ie UK) have just lent you $1,000,000,000,000 to prop it up," Dream on

Re: Collapse of the euro?
Why so touchy?
I think the Euro is a great idea but unworkable in its present state. The lesser countries/economies need to be guided/follow the structure/directions of the Euro power-houses. Independent management (or mismanagement) obviously doesn't & won't work.
It is clear to see that the Euro has been over valued. The PIIGS booms were totally un-sustainable. Why do you think the Euro was vulnerable to market movements (or attacks as you call it)?
Lending/printing money may well stabilize things for awhile, but lending money to a man drowning in debt is never a long term answer. My 2 for 1 rate may never come but I sure as hell wouldn't buy my French or Spanish land/farmhouse just yet!!
As for UK 'free' press & 'dreaming on' about IMF payments.
There's gratitude for you!

No I wouldnt either. The next 12 months will tell a tale or two and I reckon the truth will out in Spain very shortly and that will tip the balance. No currency can cope with two large knackered economies and a few little ones!
Sterling is far too weak at the moment but its good for exports so I guess its being let stay low for the moment. More than half my shares are on London and the divvies are crap!
Knew you'd bite ....

Yep, keep 'em coming!
Silly amounts of T3 parts we take for granted going to Norway most days, followed by Nederlands and Finland, decent amount going to France also!
Keep it up!
I'm no money person, that what the rest of my family do, interesting to spend some time with my brother in Germany and listen to his job for a change, seems that Germany is the only country in the EU that actually works, all the rest including us are f*cked, some more so than others.
Like I say I'm no expert but he seemed to think Ireland and Greece are properly f*cked followed by Spain and France..
Now, roll up, who wants to buy something they can't afford?

Well I think your brother is correct and time will tell. I think in the Eurozone in order of f*ckedness its Greece, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Portugal and France. We will never know because the only people who can tell us are politicians and they will never tell us like it is! At best there will be a two tier Euro club .......
