westy pop-top catch not releasing
Title says it all really. It's the type where you pull a spring loaded catch towards yourself to release it, or do I need to post a pic? Anyhow it's well stuck, been pulling at it 'til my fingers hurt (oo-er) and it's not budging. I've sprayed WD40, given a few taps with a hammer and swore at it, still nothing. Any ideas?

Re: westy pop-top catch not releasing
hey,
cant help with the catch sadly but I notice you had a autohomes kamper and now have a westy roof on it. I'm about to do the same switch. Did you encounter any probs with the size of the hole cut into the roof? Was there enough roof for the canvas to be tied down?
Sorry for steering this off topic.
Oh, and you may find plus gas better than WD40. a few sprays and try the next day

83 2ltr Air-Cooled Autohomes Kamper. Kamper roof died. Fitted an original Westy Pop-top.

Yes the canvas fits fine, the hinges were more of a problem. There's not a lot of room to attach the front ones to the roof but they will fit. I'd post pics but it is an absolute bodge that I'd be embarrassed to show here!

cool, thanks.
I'm actually going to fit gas struts to the sides instead of the front lift system so hopefully i'll manage ok. It's always a bit trial and error isnt it!

Re: westy pop-top catch not releasing
Sadly it's mostly error in my case. got the catch to release today though and have thoroughly lubricated the whole shebang so hopefully no more probs.
The issue I had was that there wasn't much roof left to fix the struts to but they just about fit.
