What Drive Away Awning for a T25 HIghTop

Post by aronadams »

HI everyone,

I am totally new to this, having chopped in my Harley in favour of a 1989 T25 HiTop.

My question is simple, which drive away awning do I need to buy to fit to my T25, I will not be sleeping in it but just want to add more space.

Thanks for your help,

Aron

Hi Besssie,

I guess I would want spend no more than £150 and for it to be big enough for a table & chairs and some storage, perhaps one with the sides that come off so it can be used as a sun canopy..

It was more, which one fits, are they different or does one size fit all?

HI
We just bought this one

http://www.worldofcamping.co.uk/shop/ou ... ductSearch" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But we have a twin slider so it didn't matter that it was designed for LHD, but if your not using it to sleep in it i dont think it matters that its ment for LHD..... it is huge and you can stand in it.

hope this helps a bit!

I bought the Royal traveller tunnel annex from World Of Camping (they jsut down the road 2o miles) and paid £84 and got free delivery :ok . Didn't ask for any discount, just ordered late on a sunday night and the bill was £84 and not £150+. By Monday morning when I checked my order THE price was back up! Comes with the gutter pole and clamps...I have an '89 high-top.

Was delivered in 3 days by a local courrier so could and would drop with a neighbour - no chasing them for a time, location etc.

Put the awning up in the garden and its MASSIVE...the kids are gonna love the space, but probably not as much as me!!!

Check out World of Camping, they really do do some serious offers, but they don't shout about it. Best of luck.
It's only money....

We have the royal traveller tunnel awning too. Not the best awning on the market but suited our needs and budget. Have already had to replace one of the pole strings. Easy to do though.

Bought ours from here http://campershop.co.uk/awnings.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Only up the road from us so picked it up from there unit.

Hi,

We got a Royal Traveller 2 awning second hand off ebay for £75. Even though it came with no instructions it was very easy to work out as is basically a square!! Hardly takes any time to set up either.

Shop around for a bargain. The sales are usually at the end of the season, but you might be lucky. Alternatively, you could find a hardly used awning on fleabay or on here etc.

You have 2 basic choices to make. Either a frame tent style awning or a tunnel type with curved hoop poles. It's a personal preference thing I guess. The tunnels are usually much lighter with nylon type fabric, whereas the frame tent types have heavier canvas and usually a rubberised roof. Both styles are available with large door openings which can be opened to form a decent canopy. They are all pretty well universal regarding attachment to the van. I reckon you need to do a bit of 'googling'.

Little tip

Cheap is often rubbish, a big gust of wind will kill it.

Kyman is the best (but at a cost)

Can anyone advise on how well the awnings fit to the gutter of the van? Our high top (KOMET) has a gutter that is pretty uneven and curves along the length of the van. Would a pole and clamp fitting work?
Do your awnings fit snug? Does rain gather in the bit between van and the awning?
We have an old style canvas awning that we have to tie on with ropes - do not want to buy a new awning if still not great fitting.
Cheers

Hi Aron,

Havent really got any advice about awnings, we bought a Khyman, expensive, ok, we have only used it once, but there is only 2 of us!
Wanted to say Hi as fellow previous Harley owners, we sold our Street Bob last year and bought a T25.
Really love the VW/camping/getting away from it thing..... but do miss the Hog, especially when the sun is out and that familiar roar can be heard. There is nothing like a Harley.....love it.............
Anyway welcome......enjoy the summer.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all of your advice, in the end it was a joint decision between Katherine, myself and the Kids and we went for the Outwell Country Road.

I will let you know how I get on with it when I use it next weekend.
