What you've got Neil is probably as good as it gets, quality-wise. :ok

Cheap van option 1

When Russel@syncronutz told Jake about Neils van being stuck in some ones garden down our way and we told Neil about it and decided that we would go down with Neil to have a look it was in a right state body wise. Mainly big bashes randomly all over it due to its collecting logs history, and luckly we have a bargain basement spray chappy round our way that does cheap resprays. We looked at it and was thinking of making offers when i suggested we walk away and find a cafe for a tea and think about our options. By this time I think Neil was thinking of making an offer of £1200 but when I suggested start low and we can always work up thats what we decided to do. I then rang the fella up and said due to the work needed it was worth £400 to us as it stood and after abit of argy bargying it was bought for £500 but that was mainly due to Russels insider knowledge and not down to any of us really.

Soooooo thats a £500 doka that if you dont include all the unnecessary stuff that money has been spent on (springs, shocks, opening windows, modified trailing arms etc thats got to be knocking on £2500 at least) I recon its an extra say £4000 for the essentials to make it looking and running respectfully. Saying that the engine still has one of the original bigger plugs in were an old one must have snapped off in the past and the VC is shagged too so if you factor in a new VC and the possibility of a new engine in the next 20.000 miles thats another £2000.

Its worth about £5000 now

Cheap van option 2

My Westy Syncro was also a so called cheap van, but and this is a big but (no pun intended) I have kept grounded about the whole thing mainly due to advice from Russel.

Van cost £1573 plus £300 auction fees. (van was found due to help on Brickyard not my own work)
£2131 Syncronutz receipts
£942.73 and £500 receipts from Aiden Talbot Gearboxes.
£800 Brickwerks receipts
£50 receipts from Gunzel
£60 receipts from GSF
£350 for wheel carrier from Syncro engineering.
£300 for my fiamma awning.
£180 for an oil cooler.

Total = £7186.73 Kind of a bargain when you think what i have ended up with and many of the important parts are new with an up graded diesel engine.

Got to be worth £13000 plus as it stands.

Expensive van option

I bought a Syncro Doka 2.1dj from Stan with new VW supplied engine fitted by Brickwerks and about £8000 worth of receipts and goodys in tow for £5000. Never had a spot of trouble with it and the only money i had to spend on it is running costs, its still worth £5000 at least.

Hope this helps....

Nice one gents,

Im still umming n arring about my budget (all depends on what i can sell to boost it a bit) missus is not on for me spending the mortgage on it, dont know why, dont need a bathroom in the house got a lovely compost bog we've been using the last couple of years while we are building, missus disagrees wholeheartedly!!
Other option is, as we are planning on renting the house every six weeks summer hols (to help pay the mortgage) i can squirrel a bit out of that each year to pay back any money i borrow to increase the budget. Or i act all grown up and sensible and buy something else for the money i can get together now (£4k ish).

Heart or head?

Syncrospares have got a beauty hightop on offer, but thats definately a dreamer at the mo.

Last time i was having the syncro/not enough money dilema i ended up with a 110 landy with a futon mattress in the back, dont want to go down that route again, although it was the business for work.

If anyone hears of anything let me know
A cheers.
