Rev Counter Calibration
Hi Guys I'm new here so excuse anything i've missed, I think i've looked through everything and still can't find an answer.
I have a 1990 1.9 Transporter, that's mid camper conversion. I just got a dash on ebay with rev counter and a digital clock. The problem is it came from a diesel, I've got every thing to work but the rev counter is barely moving 1000rpm is the engine flat out. I've read that there is a pot under the white sticker on the back for adjusting it. Will this give me enough to make it work on a petrol? or should i be looking somewhere else?
Cheers Karl

Re: Rev Counter Calibration
The rev counter from a diesel engine runs from the alternator not the ignition. Don't know if you realised this but thought I'd mention it just in case!

Re: Rev Counter Calibration
It was a straight swop for the old dash i just had to remove the bit with the glow plug light in and swop it for the same section from my old one. The rev counter is still on it's original circuit foil.

Re: Rev Counter Calibration
So if i get this right, either the tacho or the foil is specific to the petrol/diesel.
is it possible then to run a cable from the alternator and run it in to this circuit?

Re: Rev Counter Calibration
Thanks i'll give that a try, from memory i think it's the green wire.
Re: Rev Counter Calibration
Just thinking does this wire originate in the engine bay?

Re: Rev Counter Calibration
As your alternator is there... Then I imagine it would... Yes...

Re: Rev Counter Calibration
Very Smart. I'm talking about the existing wire, it being petrol. I was hoping i could just move the end in the engine bay to the alternator, hence my question where does it originate?

Re: Rev Counter Calibration
on the coil usually
but your 1.9 never had a tacho fitted.. so you'll have to run a wire from the alt

Re: Rev Counter Calibration
lovely thanks. That will be much neater than splicing a new cable in.
