Oil Light on T25

Post by aronadams »

Hi All,

We have just picked up our first camper and still getting use to the noises it makes!!!

On the drive home, when going round a couple of corners, the oil light warning came on, only for about 5 seconds but it came on never the less!

Can anyone let me know if this is the 'norm'?

Thanks,

On normal engines oil light on going round corner could indicate low oil level I suppose. On loose or shot engines oil light usually comes on on tickover with hot engine. I have a Waterboxer and the latter happened to me when I first got it. I got two years more out of it by fitting an oil cooler but wouldn't recomend that as a cure. When I had it rebuilt the light came on on the way home but never after that even when he whole thing let go suddenly while still on warranty. To be honest and in ignorance of your engine details it doesn't bode well but on the other hand the oil pressure warning system on these engines does seem to have completely ignored the KISS principle and seems to be capable of turning a mometary glitch into what feels like a good firm punch in the gob by the bad luck fairy. Why we couldn't just have one simple pressure switch hard wired to a bulb on the dash like any normal vehicle I just don't know. Stand by for more hopefully useful advice fom the others...

If you have a 'flat-4' engine design then this can be common. When cornering, the oil can move to one side of the engine and flow back up the pushrod tubes resulting in a lack of oil in the sump. This can make it difficult for the oil pump to pick up oil and you get the oil warning lamp come on!
Best way to avoid this is simply to ensure the oil level is always at the max mark on the dipstick.

Hi All,

We have the 1993cc Petrol, 1990 Leisureline Conversion. :D

I will get some pictures up later today. Its in great condition with the only thing left for us to do is to personalise it - Upholstery, Wheels, Better Stereo etc.. and we will be off and running as soon as next weekend! (Gonna take her down to Brean for 1 or 2 nights so the children can test drive the sleeping arrangements!

I am going through all of the oil possibilities today and I will keep you posted, I suspect its a little llow on oil and where it swishes about, causes the probe to sound off (well I hope it is that as everything else is tip top!).

Please check/top up the oil before driving it again - if the oil light really is indicating low oil pressure, even for a moment, it really is bad for the engine.

Lots of really helpful people in this club, if you put your approximate location as well as your van details on your signature there would probably be someone helpful within striking distance to help if required.

Happy T25-ing!
