Cold start ok - warm/hot start not so ok (2.1DJ/LPG)

Post by Yozza »

Ay up,
I've had a few problems lately so I apologise for yet another thread! Recently she has been playing up, when it's a cold start she'll fire up on the button with some minor spluttering, but if it's a warm/hot start she cranks over for ages until she splutters with very low engine revs slowly gaining speed (blup blup blup blup blup blup blup blup blup blupblupblupblupblup) with some black smoke - (that has to be a clue).

Initially I thought it was a poor spark but I'm not convinced now, (cleaned up the plugs, new cap and arm, leads ok), I'm starting to thing along the lines of coolant sensor or fuel starvation (blocked fuel filter or pump)?

Am I barking up the right tree, any pointers greatly appreciated - as always.

Thanks for the link, Ian, I took a spark plug out tonight and it was very sooty - I suspect over-fuelling might be the cause, I'll keep investigating.
To be continued...

i had the exact same problem , the aa man told me i needed a new air mass metre !!
upon inspection by a proper mechanic it was found to be the temp sensor on the thermostat housing , so i would definatly try changing that !
